Since the dawn of time (well… more like 13 years ago) Youth Council has mostly been made up of people representing their Ecclesiastical Provinces. This has been great, as it means that there is some guarantee of people being distributed across the country.
It has also been challenging, as people in the age range for Youth Council (16 to 30) are often moving for school or work. It’s hard to represent a place that you are brand new to, or to represent a place that you know well but no longer live in.
Youth Council has made some changes to hopefully keep those benefits and address the challenges a bit. There is now one representative for each Ecclesiastical province, and 4 people tasked with specific work. Two of these are positions that we are seeking to fill right now – justgeneration.ca Diocesan Ambassador (jDA) Chair and National Youth Project (NYP) Chair.
The jDA Chair will lead the committee that coordinates jDAs across the country. jDAs are young people who share the stories of PWRDF with young people in their diocese, and are supported by members of the Youth Council.
The NYP Chair will lead the NYP committee, which is a group of people from Youth Council and from the Program Committee for Youth Ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. The NYP is a project that happens alongside the Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth Gathering (CLAY) that gives young people preparing to come to CLAY something to champion and raise money for to make a difference in the world. The NYP committee decides what the NYP will be and creates resources to help young people engage with it.
These new positions are an exciting change for Youth Council, and if one sounds like it might be a good fit for you, we’d love to hear from you! Applications can be found here.
