A delicate environment known as the Páramos is found throughout Colombia’s mountainous regions. These high-altitude moorlands are crucial for the preservation of the environment and residents and provide approximately 70% of Colombia’s fresh water. But a serious threat to the Páramos is the extinction of important tree species.

Not only would the loss of tree species upset the delicate balance of the ecosystem, but it would also put future generations’ access to food and water at risk. By protecting the Páramos, we are ensuring the long-term sustainability of this vital resource.

ILSA, a partner of PWRDF, has stepped in to address this crisis. Recognizing the vital role of tree preservation, ILSA is working hand-in-hand with women in the community to safeguard trees and preserve seeds that are on the brink of vanishing. This initiative not only protects the present-day environment but also ensures food security for generations to come.

The women’s actions are evidence of the strength of a strong community and the steadfast dedication to protecting the Páramos. The Páramos’ resources are going to continue to grow thanks to ILSA’s diligent work, feeding the region’s inhabitants as well as the land itself.
