Rita Brann

Diocese of Qu’Appelle

Rita was born and raised in Coventry, England and emigrated to Regina in 1967. She met her soon-to-be-husband Robert while working at a local hospital. They married in 1968 and had two daughters. After living in Moose Jaw and moving back to England, they finally returned to Regina.

Rita’s working career was in both legal and health administration. In 2008 along with five colleagues, she began the Regina chapter of Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers, a fundraising body for the Stephen Lewis Foundation that earned the six women the 2009 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in the teamwork category.

In 1984 she joined the St. Philip faith community and was active in the Altar Guild, Choir, Lay Assistant, etc. Following a Diocesan Women’s Exchange to Lichfield, U.K. in 1994, she felt a calling for further ministry and began a discernment process to the Diaconate. Rita was ordained a Deacon in 2007 – on the same day that she retired from paid employment! During COVID-19 and after 13 years of rewarding and meaningful ministry, she retired from parish ministry. Having always been interested in the work of the PWRDF, Rita felt that being the Diocesan Representative for Qu’Appelle would be a great opportunity for the continuation of her diaconal ministry.
