PWRDF is responding to an ACT Alliance appeal to support Syrian refugees in Jordan with a grant of $40,000 to the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC). This allocation follows support that began last year with a $90,000 grant to MECC to assist the most vulnerable Syrian refugees.

Jordan currently hosts 1.36 million Syrian refugees, accounting for nearly 15% of the country’s total population. The crisis in Syria has been ongoing for 12 years and is now recognized as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the 21st century. While Jordan continues to bear more than its fair share of the response to this crisis, the country’s capacities are dwindling.

The new funds from PWRDF will support MECC in developing an elderly home care training course for Syrian refugees in Jordan and will include four groups of 20 participants each. Groups will also learn how to sew, and youth will be trained on maintenance of solar panels and hybrid technology.

MECC’s ongoing work in Jordan ensures that Syrian refugees, host communities and vulnerable crisis-affected populations in Jordan will improve their self-reliance, increase their access to sustainable livelihood opportunities and become more resilient.

PWRDF’s funds given in 2022 supported MECC providing food, hygiene, and winter clothing vouchers to thousands of people.

MECC has been working with host communities and Syrian refugees since 2012. They currently implement a livelihood program for Syrian and Iraqi women in Jordan, as well as vulnerable women from the host communities.

The PWRDF Wild Ride supports our partners, like MECC, who are working to provide relief and opportunities to refugees around the world.
