On Sunday, September 27, Archbishop Linda graced a rapt Facebook Live audience with her second live Hymn Sing event (available for viewing here).

The first Facebook Live hymn sing was July 26. Both events were part of PWRDF’s Ride for Refuge fundraiser. The chosen beneficiary this year is St. Jude Family Projects in Uganda, an agricultural school that addresses food insecurity by teaching women, children and youth how to farm and adapt to climate change.

The Primate collected dozens of requests for hymns on her Ride for Refuge page, raising $3,450 and shattering her fundraising goal of $1,000 in the process. Comments during the live broadcast were overwhelming in their appreciation of Primate Linda’s talents and dedication.

“This is a truly lovely thing to be doing. Appreciate Bishop Linda Nicholls’ offering,” said Mary Rowe from the Diocese of Toronto.

“Thank you so much, Your Grace. Some of these hymns brought back some wonderful memories,” said Rev. Valerie Isaac, PWRDF Representative from the Diocese of Moosonee.

Halfway through the September 27 event, PWRDF hit its fundraising goal of $30,000, and then increased it to $35,000. Due to COVID-19, Ride for Refuge organizers introduced a Ride Freestyle category that has captured the imagination of many PWRDF supporters. Participants are knitting, reading, kayaking and hiking to raise funds.

PWRDF is extremely grateful to the Primate for her willingness to sing, play the piano (and the flute!) on Facebook Live. Donations to Primate Linda’s Hymn Sing for Refuge can be made until October 31 at this page.
