Let the clean water flow in Grand Fond, Haiti

A milestone is being reached in the community of Grand Fond, Haiti, with a water project between the Haitian Women’s Federation and Rayjon ShareCare, funded by PWRDF. This achievement will mark a significant improvement in the lives of residents in this community.
Before the project, water contamination was a major concern, with animals sharing the same water sources as humans. This created serious health risks to the community, who relied on the water for drinking, bathing and cooking.
With this project, clean water will be readily available to the community. A secure reservoir and three solar-powered faucets provide continuous access to clean water from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing residents to have a reliable source of clean water, as opposed to a slow trickle of dirty water they had in the past.
The Haitian Women’s Federation is a grassroots organization with a membership of more than 350 women from seven women’s associations in villages in the St. Marc region. Their democratically elected leadership is responsible for bringing the voices, ideas and contributions from the membership together to work toward common goals in education, health care and women’s entrepreneurship. They have successfully established a sustainable breadfruit processing factory and tree nursery to generate reliable income to invest back into their communities.
