As one of 15 members of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, PWRDF has an equity account that grows with donations from Anglicans across Canada. When disaster happens, PWRDF can access the funds and work with other Foodgrains Bank members to implement an effective response. These funds are even further leveraged with a 4:1 match from the government of Canada.
The Canadian Foodgrains Bank was established in 1983 as Christian response to world hunger. Churches across the country came together to support farmers in donating food to parts of the world that needed it. At the time, the government’s policy stipulated that foreign aid must be spent on food that was grown in Canada. That meant the Foodgrains Bank shipped most grain from Canada to where it was needed overseas. It was the combination of working together alongside other Christian denominations and having expertise on food security that ultimately led PWRDF to join the Foodgrains Bank in 2007. Today, their commitment to the partnership remains strong. In 2008, the government changed its policy, making it possible for the Foodgrains Bank to buy food closer to the area of need in the developing world.
Today you can donate money to PWRDF’s equity in the Foodgrains Bank, or your parish can support a farmer who will donate funds from his or her profits, known as a Growing Project.

We need Anglicans to get involved:
- We need you to join the i care campaign and send a post card to Parliament Hill.
- We need farmers who are willing to donate the cash proceeds from a portion of their crops to PWRDF’s equity in the Foodgrains Bank.
- We need Anglicans who are passionate about food security and who want to galvanize support from their parish towards the farmer’s costs in donating cash proceeds from their designated crops.
- We need donors to give to our Foodgrains Bank equity so that we can respond effectively to emergencies as they occur.
