PWRDF Humanitarian Response Coordinator Naba Gurung has been in close contact with Barbara Andrews, Bishop of the Territory of the People (formerly the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior), where she notes every resident is affected by the fire, as reported in the Anglican Journal.

While immediate needs are being met, Gurung notes that recovery from such a disaster can take a long time. PWRDF is ready to work with affected dioceses once needs have been clarified.

Bishop Andrews reports that the leadership team is getting a sense of its parishioners’ needs, beyond ensuring their safety. Churches are on standby to provide space for evacuees if needed.

Wednesday was spent as a day of prayer at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Kamloops and Bishop Andrews asks for everyone’s continued prayers.

PWRDF encourages donations to its emergency fund which will be used to support needs in British Columbia. Donations can be made via credit card over the phone (toll free at 1-866-308-7973), or online at our Canada Helps page at pwrdf.org/donate. Choose Emergency Response from the drop down menu.

You can also mail a cheque to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, The Anglican Church of Canada, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 3G2. Please note “Emergency Response” on your cheque.
