Emily Lilley is a grade 8 student living in Cambridge, Ontario, and attends St. James’ Anglican Church. After learning about the justgeneration.ca National Youth Project – Right to Water in a presentation about CLAY 2016, she was inspired to create this piece of art.
Last year in school, my art teacher assigned a project about social justice and global issues. We had to create an art piece that was meaningful and spread awareness about the topic we chose. I was inspired by the National Youth Project – Right to Water, so I decided to create my art piece based around this theme.
The idea of the whole piece is to inform people about the very real need for clean water in many areas in Canada and around the world, so I included some statistics, and I wrote that water is a right, not a privilege.
It needs to be recognized that we all have a right to water, no matter who we are, and we need to work together to bring water to those without it.
