Art project by Emily Lilley focusing on the National Youth Project - the Right to Water.Emily Lilley is a grade 8 student living in Cambridge, Ontario, and attends St. James’ Anglican Church. After learning about the justgeneration.ca National Youth Project – Right to Water in a presentation about CLAY 2016, she was inspired to create this piece of art.

Last year in school, my art teacher assigned a project about social justice and global issues. We had to create an art piece that was meaningful and spread awareness about the topic we chose. I was inspired by the National Youth Project – Right to Water, so I decided to create my art piece based around this theme.

The water droplets in the boxes show how, despite it being everyone’s right, so many people do not have access to water.

The people trying to get into the boxes stand for those who do not have access to water, and those who are trying to provide them with it.

It needs to be recognized that we all have a right to water, no matter who we are, and we need to work together to bring water to those without it.
