A message from PWRDF’s Executive Director Adele Finney.

I’ve been really impressed with Advent (the four weeks before Christmas in the Christian calendar) ever since I realized that the scriptures we read in church each Sunday during Advent are a focused call to change the way we live in human community. What an extraordinary invitation to hear an alternative heartbeat of mercy and justice in the narrowing, darkening days of a Canadian December.

Advent is a capacity building exercise. It’s meant to make enough space and time in our hearts and minds, so that when we dare to lift and embrace a newborn Christmas child we recognize that same heartbeat of kindness and justice.

When we walk faithfully and close enough to another community to hear its heartbeat, when we walk with kindness and justice, the human community faces its challenges and flourishes. That is our aim and hope for this ministry of The Anglican Church of Canada through The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund.

Advent and Christmas hope to each of you.
