PWRDF ready to provide aid in South Sudan

As deadly violence has again broken out in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan, PWRDF is in regular communication with the Anglican Alliance and the Episcopal Church of Sudan and South Sudan about what the humanitarian needs are in and around Juba, and how PWRDF can help to provide relief to the tens of thousands of people who have fled their homes in the wake of the violence.

People fleeing the violence have taken sanctuary in the Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals in Juba and in other churches.  Most aid agencies are not functioning in Juba at the moment because of the violence.  The local churches are the agencies who are there to provide shelter and sanctuary.

A cease fire is currently in place, but there is worry about the country returning to civil war.

But many who fled the violence are afraid to return home.  Others who have returned home have found their houses looted.  Markets were closed by the violence, and many of them were also looted.

The Episcopal Church of Sudan and South Sudan is providing food and water to the hundreds of families who have taken sanctuary in the cathedral.  PWRDF is in conversation with them about the next steps- expanding the relief efforts throughout and beyond Juba, and providing medicine, bedding, clothing and other necessities to the displaced people.

As soon as PWRDF knows the plans for this further relief work, PWRDF will send funds in support of the work.  In the meantime, please pray for peace in South Sudan, and for all those displaced by the violence, and for those who work to bring them relief.
