Advent is a surprising clarion call to justice, fecundity and compassion without fear, in the midst of transformative, sometimes cataclysmic change. What a resonant call at the end of a year full of global commitments to sustainable development and addressing climate change. What powerful messages as each of us locally respond through debate and action to welcome refugees in our homes, churches and communities.
Do not fear.
Raise your heads and stand with confidence.
Increase and abound in love for one another and for all…that your love may overflow.
These are messages in Advent 2015 readings we need to hear. When Mary heard, her heart and voice overflowed in a powerful proclamation of hope-filled justice and abundance.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
Beware of fear and advancing the notion of scarcity. Be aware and speak of hope and abundance at the heart of every personal, social and political encounter. Know that PWRDF’s work towards a truly just, healthy and peaceful world beats close to the heart of Advent.
