San Salvador, August 2006

A report based on the Canada-Central America Ecumenical Dialogue held in August 2006 in San Salvador, El Salvador is now available. The full title of the report is Canada-Central America Ecumenical Dialogue-Opportunities and Challenges for Development.

In August 2006, PWRDF, together with the United Church and Presbyterian World Service and Development (PWS&D), hosted a three-day roundtable meeting in El Salvador with partner organizations in Central America. The three-day event brought together approximately 50 representatives from 25 church-based and secular development and grassroots organizations in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Participants to the meeting shared their experiences, learning and challenges for development practices in Central America. They also reflected on the political situation in the region.

The three Canadian Churches have been accompanying a variety of partner organizations in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua since the civil war years in the seventies and eighties and among the three churches we share several partner relationships and collaborate significantly on both Canadian and world ecumenical stages.  The churches and their partners wish to continue their collaboration in Central America during this uncertain period of the new millennium.
