PWRDF responds to the Solomon Islands tusnami

The Primates World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) has made an initial emergency grant of $10,000 towards the Rapid Response Fund issued by Action by Churches Together (ACT) International for Solomon Islands tsunami disaster.
The World Council of Churches Office in the Pacific (WCC OP) is coordinating the relief efforts together with partners in the Pacific such as the Church of Melanesia (CoM), which is the Anglican Church in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, the United Church and Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA).
CoM staff is undertaking an assessment with local Anglican Disaster Committee in places such as Munda and Gizo, to determine an appropriate response to the emergency and to assess the needs related to rehabilitation and recovery efforts. CoM personnel have training and experience in areas that include trauma counseling, pastoral care, engaging with young people at risk and community leadership development.
Currently CoM response is focused on providing food, household items and water before entering a phase of rehabilitation of homes, church buildings and other infrastructure.
