Preparations are underway for the third ecumenical  “justice camp” directed at youth and adults. The camp, an ecumenical initiative, will be held in Victoria, BC, May 13-18, 2007. This year the focus is on Environment Justice, under the theme — Mending Creation.
Hosted by the Diocese of British Columbia, the justice camp will be a six-day opportunity to explore the nature and quality of all our relationships (including the place of humanity) within creation, in order to recover and rediscover balance, limits, and true community. It will offer real world applications and suggestions around mending our ways in order to allow Creation to mend itself.
Participants from across Canada will travel to various sites around lower Vancouver Island, coming to grips with local issues through immersion in environmental projects and learning centres. These hands-on experiences will be combined with theological reflection, academic study and community building.

Small immersion groups will spend three full days exploring:
•    Coastal waters
•    Inland waters
•    Lands and forests
•    Climate change and buildings
•    Climate change and energy
•    Climate change and transportation
•    The re-shaping of our communities
Academic credits are available for participating in the camp as well through the Vancouver School of Theology and Royal Roads University.
Participation
The registration deadline is April 1, 2007; participation is limited to 70 participants. Written reasons for wanting to attend will be an important factor in your selection for this camp. The registration fee is $300, which includes food, accommodation and materials.
This third camp is an initiative of the Eco-Justice Committee of the Anglican Church of Canada and the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). It will further the learning’s and will incorporate the success of the last two camps, the Food and Justice camp held in Winnipeg in 2005 and the Advocacy Justice camp held in Ottawa in 2006.
Other partner organizations are the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, the Diocese of Montreal, VanCity Community Grants programs, the Canadian Friends Service Committee (Quakers) and FaithLife Financial.
The justice camp idea came from members of the Eco-Justice Committee reflecting on how they might capture the enthusiasm, energy and idealism of young people for the Anglican church’s ministry of peace and justice.
Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, has endorsed the justice camps.
Plans for future camps are being made in other dioceses.
